The increase in world population year by year has put pressure on the demand for various types of needs. However, limited resources and endless human desires may result in not everyone’s basic needs will be met if it is not managed properly. Thus, food is one of the basic needs that need to be given attention in ensuring the economic and social development of a country remains progressive and competitive.


Why Food Security is Important Issue?

“Food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical, social and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food that meets their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life”. (FAO, 2001)

National Food Security Framework has been built based on food security dimension by United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

FSCC role is to draft food security policy that is holistic and sustainable. The committee is assisted by National Food Security Executive Committee which plays a role to as a coordinating committee chaired by Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry. The executive committee members are from Secretaries Generals, Director Generals, Malaysia’s Bank Governor, industry players and NGO related to agrofood sectors.
